The Bow Belly started off with food enthusiasts Nell & Omer in a small kitchen at the back of a shop in Hackney Wick. Experimenting with different types of foods and ingredients for the first couple of years, the pair decided eventually to concentrate on developing alternative recipes to common products, using as much locally sourced ingredients as possible.
Since then, trading on many of London Farmers' Markets locations all over London and other events, The Bow Belly team, always expending, keeps adding to their offering, now ranging from jams and marmalades, made mainly from fruit grown in Essex and Kent, through vegan and wheat-free cakes and on to fabulous fresh salads, hummus and falafel(made from UK grown Fava Beans) and the now-famous Shakshuka, made from delicious tomatoes grown on the Isle Of Wight and free-range eggs.
Always vegetarian, with many vegan and wheat-free options, The Bow Belly's aim is to offer a healthier alternative to common British street-foods without compromising on flavour and satisfaction. taking inspiration from British, Asian, Middle-Eastern and European cuisines, we want to create more and more options for people who want to have their lunch on the go. using local ingredients wherever possible, we strive to make the food business more sustainable, while supporting other local businesses, from fruit and vegetable growers to millers and cheese-makers.
